Spanish rules are also not the rules you know. There is no 1-euro cap on slot stakes, and live roulette and blackjack are legal online. Tax runs the other way: in the UK a player pays nothing on winnings, while in Spain net winnings are taxable and go into your IRPF return.
The third question is the one most comparison pages fudge: which of these sites actually works in English? Partial English is common — Betfair’s Exchange runs in English while its casino does not — so we say which is which instead of ticking a box marked “English available”. About that “App” column. It gives each brand’s best-rated app in the Spanish App Store, which is not always a casino app. Worth knowing which is which before you download anything:
- PAF 4.8 (40) and Betway 4.7 (3,205) are casino apps. PAF’s score is the highest here, but it rests on only 40 ratings — too small a sample to set against Betway’s 3,205.
- Betfair 4.6 (14,501), Interwetten 4.4 (109) and Sportium 4.2 (1,074) are sports betting apps. Interwetten and Sportium have no casino app at all, so their casinos are played in the mobile browser. Betfair also runs an Exchange app, rated 4.3 (507).
- Betfair does have a casino app, but at 1.9 with 31 ratings it is the weakest here. For its casino, use the browser.
App ratings: Apple App Store Spain, checked on 5 August 2026. “No verified figure” means the operator publishes no game count we could confirm. Spanish catalogues are smaller than British or unlicensed ones because every game is certified individually — the licence working, not a shortcoming.

Most casino rankings for Spain are written for a Spanish audience. Ours asks a different question: how well does this operator work if you live in Spain but do not read Spanish comfortably?
- A DGOJ licence — non-negotiable. Every operator here appears in the official DGOJ register. If a site is not on that list, we do not discuss it.
- Language in practice, not in the marketing. We grade partial English as partial.

If you bet in Britain or Ireland you know this name — but you know it from betfair.com, and betfair.com is not the licensed route for a resident of Spain. Here the operator is Betfair International Spain, S.A. (Flutter group, registered in Ceuta), holding DGOJ singular licences for roulette, blackjack, slot machines and, unusually, apuestas deportivas cruzadas — cross betting, the Exchange. Very few operators in Spain hold it.
On language, two things are true at once. The Exchange runs in full English at www.betfair.es/exchange/plus/en/, while the portal and the casino at casino.betfair.es — roulette, blackjack, slots and live tables — are in Spanish. The apps split the same way: sports 4.6 (14,501), the best-rated app of the whole selection; Exchange 4.3 (507); casino 1.9 from 31 ratings, the weakest here.

A real English site, and a real German one
An Austrian house trading since 1990, and the only site here that serves both English and German: /en/ and /de/ deliver their own content rather than bouncing you back to Spanish. Verified payment methods are PayPal, Apple Pay and Paysafecard.
Now the honest half. The catalogue is the smallest of the five and Interwetten publishes no game count. There is also no casino app whatsoever: the only store app is “Interwetten Apuestas”, 4.4 from 109 ratings, filed under Sports. You play the casino in your phone’s browser.

The Nordic house that leads with the casino
PAF GAMES, S.A. belongs to the Nordic PAF group (Ålands Penningautomatförening), and its Spanish site has a genuine, complete English version: paf.es/en carries real translated content, not a stub pointing you back to Spanish. There is no German. It holds DGOJ singular licences for roulette, blackjack and slot machines, plus sports betting licences, and general licences under “Otros juegos” and “Apuestas”.
It presents itself as a casino first — the page title is “Paf.es | Online Casino | Paf” — and the app follows: “Paf Casino Online y Apuestas” is filed under Casino, a genuine casino app, rated 4.8, the highest score on this page. The caveat matters as much as the number: that average comes from only 40 ratings. Promising, not proven.

The Spanish local, if language is no obstacle
The home-grown option: SPORTIUM APUESTAS DIGITAL, S.A. (formerly Cirsa Digital, registered in Ceuta), with its own DGOJ singular licences for roulette, blackjack and slot machines. The casino at sportium.es/casino has a live section, roulette and slots. Sportium states it offers more than 3,500 games — its own claim, which we could not verify, so we attribute it rather than repeat it as fact.
For an English speaker the drawbacks stack up: Spanish only, no casino app (the 4.2 app with 1,074 ratings is the sports app, though its store listing does appear in English), and a brand that means nothing outside Spain.

Fifth on our list, first on the app
Fifth place is not a verdict on the product, and we will not pretend otherwise. Betway Spain, S.A. (registered in Ceuta) gives you a real English version of the Spanish site at betway.es/en — not a translated landing page, the site itself. That matters most in the moments that are not the fun ones: verification, setting limits, reading the withdrawal rules. There is no German website.
Its DGOJ licences are individually verifiable: 75/GO/1011, 79/RLT/1011 for roulette, 80/BLJ/1011 for blackjack, 387/MAZ/1011 for slots, plus 350/GA/1011, 440/ADC/1011, 442/AHC/1011 and 441/AOC/1011. Your residence, not your nationality, decides which rulebook applies. Five consequences follow.
Your UK or Irish account is not the answer. The UKGC licence does not cover residents of Spain, and checks eventually surface the mismatch. A VPN breaks the operator’s terms and can cost you your balance.
There is no 1-euro stake cap. That limit belongs to the German GGL licence, along with its ban on live casino. Neither applies in Spain, where live roulette and blackjack are legal online.
Winnings are taxable here. In the UK a player pays no tax on winnings; in Spain net gambling winnings form part of your IRPF income and must be declared. General information, not tax advice — speak to a gestor.
The self-exclusion register is the RGIAJ. Free, and it blocks you across every licensed operator in one step; removal cannot be requested earlier than six months after you register. A self-exclusion registered in another country does not carry over.
Shared deposit limits are coming. Royal Decree 520/2026 introduces caps that add up across operators rather than resetting at each one: 700 euros a day, 1,750 euros a week and 3,300 euros per four weeks, expected around March 2027.
Registering, step by step
Spanish operators verify every identity against official registers, so registration is stricter than you may be used to.
- Have your NIE or DNI to hand. As a foreign resident you register with your NIE, from the green certificate or the TIE card. Without one you will not get an account.
- Enter your name exactly as on the document — middle names, both surnames, accents — and your real address in Spain. Mismatches are the commonest reason a verification stalls.
- Upload a photo of the document before your first deposit. You can usually play before verification completes, but generally cannot withdraw until it does.
- Set your deposit limit at sign-up. Lowering it later takes effect immediately; raising it only after a cooling-off period. That asymmetry is deliberate — use it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep using my UK or Irish account now that I live in Spain? Not reliably. A UKGC licence does not cover Spanish residents, and address and geolocation checks catch up with the mismatch.
